2. Our service and these terms
We provide advertising and enquiry facilities for privately owned cars, vans and motorbikes, including scooters and seller-declared classics. These terms govern your use of Veramotive and your purchase of our advertising service. Our privacy policy explains how we use personal information; it is not consent to unrelated uses of your information.
You must be at least 18 to create an account, advertise or send enquiries. Sellers must act privately, outside a trade or business. Dealers and other traders must not describe themselves as private sellers or use this service to sell stock.
You must accept these terms when registering and before paying for an advert. You can review and correct your advert before submitting your order. Your paid advertising contract begins when we email you to confirm acceptance of your order following successful payment. A payment receipt alone is not acceptance of your order or confirmation of publication. Our acceptance email will include your order details, the agreed publication arrangements, these terms and cancellation information in a form you can keep. If payment is taken but we cannot accept or provide your order, we will refund it in full without undue delay.
You must verify your email address before publishing an advert or sending an enquiry. Our contract with you is in English. You may stop using the service, withdraw an advert or ask us to close your account at any time. Ending use does not affect accrued rights, cancellation rights or records we must lawfully retain.
3. Vehicle transactions are between buyer and seller
Veramotive supplies advertising and contact facilities. We are not the seller, owner, dealer, broker, agent or auctioneer for an advertised vehicle. We are not a party to a vehicle sale contract.
The buyer and seller alone agree any viewing, inspection, deposit, price, payment method, finance settlement, collection, delivery, ownership transfer, warranty, return or refund. An advert or enquiry does not itself create a vehicle sale contract with us.
We do not receive, hold, safeguard, transfer or refund vehicle purchase money or deposits. We provide no escrow, buyer protection scheme, vehicle warranty or payment guarantee. Stripe checkout on Veramotive is for our listing fee only. Never treat a payment request from another user as authorised or guaranteed by us.
We never ask you to pay a vehicle purchase price or deposit to Veramotive, hold vehicles or vehicle purchase money on your behalf, or issue payment instructions on behalf of a seller. A claim that Veramotive provides escrow, vehicle protection or vehicle payment handling is false. Do not act on it; contact us using the details in section 1. This does not prevent a seller from sending their own payment proposal, for which they are responsible.
Buyers and sellers arrange and are responsible for their own viewings, inspections, test drives, collection, delivery and other meetings. We do not organise, supervise or insure those activities. Meet in a safe place, check insurance before any test drive and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. This does not exclude any responsibility we have under section 11.
We do not promise that another user will perform their agreement, pay, deliver a vehicle, transfer good title or resolve a complaint. Subject to section 11, we are not responsible for another user's acts or omissions, a failed or fraudulent sale, a disputed deposit, unpaid or misdirected purchase money, a payment reversal, loss or injury at a meeting between users, or a disagreement about a vehicle. Your rights against the other party remain unaffected.
4. No vehicle authentication or endorsement
Adverts, photographs, specifications, prices, mileage, ownership claims and classic descriptions come from sellers. Publication, email verification, moderation or payment of a listing fee is not our endorsement or certification of a seller or vehicle. Email verification confirms access to an email account; it is not an identity or ownership check.
We do not inspect or authenticate vehicles or establish their identity, provenance, originality, legal ownership, right to sell, condition, roadworthiness, safety, mileage accuracy, value, outstanding finance, stolen status or insurance/write-off history. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of seller content.
DVSA MOT information, where available, is a saved third-party record with a source and retrieval date. It may be incomplete or out of date. It is not a current inspection, a vehicle history guarantee or evidence of ownership. An MOT pass does not establish a vehicle's present condition. Missing MOT information does not establish that a vehicle is exempt or has never been tested. Sellers remain responsible for checking and correcting prefilled advert details.
Distance results are approximate straight-line estimates based on postcode information, not exact addresses or driving distances.
Seller content is provided by sellers and MOT records by DVSA. Each seller is responsible for their own advert. We do not adopt seller content or third-party records as our own representations merely by displaying them. We remain responsible for our own statements, our handling of information and any other duties the law places on us. Section 11 explains the limits of these terms.
5. Buyer responsibilities
Before committing or paying, make your own checks appropriate to the vehicle and transaction. Check the seller's identity and authority to sell, the vehicle and VIN against its documents, outstanding finance, theft and write-off history, current MOT position and condition. Consider an independent inspection and vehicle history check. A registration document is not by itself proof of ownership.
When you send an enquiry, your message and verified email address are shared with the seller so they can reply to you directly. Conversations that continue outside Veramotive are not hosted or monitored by us.
Agree the sale terms and obtain a receipt directly from the seller. Arrange lawful and appropriately insured test drives, collection and use. Do not rely solely on an advert, a photograph or a message as proof that a vehicle exists or that payment details are genuine.
These precautions do not transfer to you any responsibility that the law places on us or remove rights you have against a seller.
6. Seller responsibilities and prohibited content
You must own the vehicle or have the owner's permission and lawful authority to advertise and sell it. You must have the right to transfer ownership on the agreed terms and disclose finance or other restrictions affecting the sale. You must comply with applicable vehicle sale and roadworthiness law.
Give accurate, current and non-misleading details. Disclose material facts and known defects, including relevant damage, write-off history, mileage discrepancies, modifications and finance. Do not conceal facts through photographs or descriptions. Correct errors promptly and mark the advert sold or withdraw it when it is no longer available.
As a private seller you remain legally responsible to your buyer. A vehicle sold by description must match that description, and a buyer may have claims against you for misrepresentation. We do not take on those obligations for you.
You must have permission to use uploaded text and photographs. Do not post stolen or fraudulent vehicles, impersonation, unlawful or discriminatory material, threats, harassment, spam, malicious links or another person's private information. Do not use enquiries for unsolicited marketing, payment scams or activity unrelated to a genuine vehicle enquiry.
The registration cannot be changed to substitute a different vehicle into an advert. Only one active advert per vehicle registration is permitted. At least one successfully processed photograph is required for publication. After publication the asking price may be reduced but not increased.
7. Listing fees and advert availability
The one-off listing fee is 0.1% of the asking price, rounded to the nearest penny, with a £1 minimum and a £9.99 maximum. The total payable, including any applicable tax, is shown before payment. For example, a £5,000 asking price gives a £5 listing fee. We use Stripe for listing payments.
The fee buys an advertising service, not a sale, minimum number of views, enquiry or guaranteed search position. Reducing the asking price after publication does not recalculate the original fee. There is no recurring listing charge under these terms.
Your advert remains live until you mark it sold, withdraw it, or it is removed under these terms. Sold adverts remain publicly viewable with a sold notice but are excluded from search and cannot receive enquiries. There is no fixed minimum advertising period, automatic advert expiry or renewal fee. Suspension of an account also hides its adverts while the suspension remains in place. If we permanently discontinue a paid service, we will give reasonable notice where practicable and provide any refund required for the service not supplied.
8. Cancellation, refunds and problems with our service
Changing your mind
You may cancel your advertising contract without giving a reason within 14 days after the day the contract is made. For example, if we confirm acceptance of your order on 1 November, the ordinary cancellation deadline is the end of 15 November. If the law extends your cancellation period because required cancellation information was not supplied, that longer period applies.
If you cancel within the applicable cooling-off period, we will refund your listing fee in full, even if your advert has already been published. We make no deduction for advertising supplied during that period. Publication, a sale or marking an advert sold does not remove this right under these terms.
Before publication during the cooling-off period, we will ask you expressly to request an early start. If you do not request an early start, we will not begin the paid advertising service during that period. Requesting an early start does not waive the full-refund promise above.
Tell us clearly that you wish to cancel using the email, telephone or postal details in section 1. You may use the form below, but do not have to. Send your cancellation communication before the deadline. Include your advert reference or enough information to identify your order. We will treat withdrawal of an advert during the cooling-off period as cancellation, without requiring a separate message. Marking an advert sold does not itself request a refund; contact us if you also wish to cancel.
On cancellation we will remove the advert from public view and stop new enquiries. We will refund the listing fee without undue delay and no later than 14 days after you tell us you are cancelling. Refunds use the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise, and carry no refund fee.
After the cooling-off period
You can withdraw your advert at any time. After the applicable cooling-off period, a sale, lack of enquiries or a change of mind does not by itself entitle you to a refund for advertising already properly supplied. We will consider any amount due for service not supplied and any applicable legal rights. There is no separate cancellation charge.
Problems with our service
If our service is faulty, not supplied as agreed or not provided with reasonable care and skill, contact us. You may be entitled to repeat performance, a price reduction or refund, and other remedies required by law. Duplicate or erroneous charges will be investigated and corrected. Any additional goodwill refund is assessed individually and does not restrict legal rights.
Optional cancellation form
Complete and return this form only if you wish to cancel the contract.

9. Accounts, moderation and reports
Keep your account details accurate and your sign-in credentials secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. You are not automatically responsible for activity caused by a failure of our security.
We may investigate reports and restrict content or accounts where reasonably necessary to address suspected fraud, unlawful content, security risks or a material breach of these terms. We may act immediately where delay could cause harm or breach the law. Where lawful and appropriate, we will explain our decision and allow you to ask for a human review by contacting us. Restrictions will be proportionate to the circumstances. Removal or suspension does not automatically forfeit your listing fee. Section 8 continues to apply. Outside the cooling-off period, any amount retained following your material breach must be fair and reflect service properly supplied or reasonable loss directly caused by that breach, without double recovery. We will explain any deduction and refund any balance due. We will not charge a penalty.
Anyone may report suspected scams, unlawful content or a safety concern using the contact details in section 1. Include the advert URL or reference, relevant facts and supporting evidence where available. Use the same route to challenge an advert removal or account restriction, complain about our handling of a report, or tell us that our safety measures have unfairly affected you. We will assess the information, take appropriate action and explain the outcome where lawful and appropriate. If we need further information, we will ask for it. We may preserve relevant records and cooperate with competent authorities where legally justified. We do not undertake to pre-approve or investigate every advert, but this does not exclude duties imposed on us by law.
10. Content permissions and availability
You retain ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, process, resize, display and transmit it as needed to operate your advert and the service, including through our service providers. This is not permission to use your content in unrelated advertising campaigns. When content is removed, active public use ends, subject to lawful record retention, backups and copies others have already made.
Do not interfere with the service, bypass access controls or collect users' personal information for unauthorised purposes. We may interrupt service for maintenance or security and will use reasonable care to minimise disruption. We do not promise uninterrupted access; this does not remove remedies for failure to provide our paid service as agreed.
11. Our responsibility to you
The allocation of responsibility in sections 3 and 4 reflects our role as an advertising provider. It does not excuse our own breach of contract, negligence or other conduct for which we are legally responsible.
If we breach these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that breach or failure. Loss is foreseeable where it is an obvious consequence or was contemplated by both parties when the contract was made. Subject to the protections in the final paragraph of this section, we are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable or loss caused solely by a buyer, seller or other third party for whose conduct we are not legally responsible. Where our own breach or failure contributes to a loss, these terms do not exclude our responsibility for that contribution.
Our service is for private use. We do not accept liability for business losses such as lost business profits, business interruption or lost commercial opportunities arising from use contrary to that restriction, except where the law requires otherwise.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited. Nothing restricts your mandatory consumer rights, rights concerning our paid service, or remedies under data protection law.
12. Disputes, changes and applicable law
A dispute about a vehicle sale should be taken up with the buyer or seller. We may review a report for platform safety, but do not decide who owns a vehicle, determine contractual liability, recover vehicle payments or act as an arbitrator. This does not stop you bringing a claim against us for our own legal responsibility.
For complaints about Veramotive, contact us under section 1. We will investigate and explain our response. If unresolved, we will provide any information about alternative dispute resolution that the law requires. You remain free to seek independent advice or use the courts.
Changes to these terms will be dated and made available before they apply. We will notify account holders of material changes. The version accepted for a paid order continues to govern that order. We will not retrospectively remove accrued rights. Any change required by law applies only to the extent legally necessary; other changes to an existing paid order require your express agreement.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without depriving consumers elsewhere in the UK of mandatory protections in their home jurisdiction. Consumers may bring proceedings in the courts available to them under applicable law, including their home courts in Scotland or Northern Ireland where applicable. If a provision is unenforceable, the remainder continues where it can fairly do so.
